The “I Am Not A Layperson” show

"I am licensed in health insurance.  I am not just some layperson".  So begins a blog that I happened across in preparing for this show.  I felt this was one of the reasons for the demise of healthcare reform, that when it comes to politics and sports, we're all experts.  Maybe we can shelve our talking points and learn from each other in 10 years when reform comes around again.  Meanwhile, we are updating you on the Canadian Medical Association's view of our reform process, swine flu, exercise, and a horrible blunder at the VA.

Tony's Tips

Cancer ] - PSA screening, widely recommended by urologists, requires an element of faith. According to the US Preventive Services Task Force, there is no firm data that treating positive PSA tests actually treats life-threatening prostate cancers. In time this may be proved, but maybe not. We recommend to get it checked, but be wary of extensive treatments for small changes in the values.
